After years and years of going to car shows, swap meets and cruises and rarely seeing any Mavericks or Comets, a group of us decided that there should be an annual Maverick Comet get together or a meet and greet in Ontario. On May 7th, 2006 that day finally came. This was brought together through the work of a Maverick owner known as the Daydreamer. The city of Milton was chosen for our first Meet and Greet at Kelsey's restaurant. We only had two cars, both Mavericks (the Comets would come next year). The amount of cars was a moot point, the fact that there was an event for Mavericks and Comets was a thrill all in its self. The official first car to attend the Meet and Greet was Larry Winter's nearly finished 1977 Maverick in stunning Grabber Blue complete with Torino tail lights. His car will always be the first car to arrive in Meet and Greet history. The other Maverick to attend was a different story all together. This car was a father son's project that was 60% finished. It will always be known as the MonteMaverick. Why you ask? The car was half Chevy Monte Carlo and half Ford Maverick complete with a Chevy 305 (if i recall) and Monte Carlo front frame and all the steering and suspension gear that goes with it. If this beast ever gets done it will handle better than a ........... well ............ a Maverick. I really do hope this car gets finished someday. I have to admit it would be fun to go to a Chevy show and lift the hood up and walk away. Let the whining begin. There was a large group of people that showed up to check out these two Mavericks, hopefully they will get their cars done for next years Meet and Greet or at the very least get interested in buying a Maverick or Comet and getting them on the road. The Annual Maverick Comet Meet and Greet had finally begun. I could not have been more thrilled!
Our first dash plaque for our first Meet and Greet, hey ya gotta start somewhere.
After we had a great lunch at Kelsey's out we went to check out the Mavericks (and the MonteMaverick).
Yes half Maverick and half Monte Carlo.
The first Maverick ever to arrive at the first Meet and Greet was Larry Winter's Maverick. Now a piece of Meet and Greet history.
Does anyone know where the MonteMav is, please let me know?
The very first Maverick Comet Meet and Greet group pictures, forever frozen in time. Were you there?
This was part of a booklet produced to mark the occasion of our first Maverick Comet Meet and Greet. The booklet is from 2008.
This was truly the start of an event just for Mavericks and Comets. It's time has finally come and we could not have been any happier about it!!
